I saw a few of these diving in Okinawa, Japan - in sea water, various depths.

They are about 2cm to 3cm in diameter. Anyone know what they are?

Thanks for the info guys :)

I google'd and found they seem to be a problem in aquarium's - they start off small and grow bigger very slowly.

Once again cheers for the ID!

you pop these things in an Aquarium and they spread like Poison Ivy. ICKY!!!! they are like the little mushrooms that you step on and the poof of powder comes out. RUIN a coral tank if you aren't careful. Usually, emerald crabs can keep them at bay and a couple other things. These look like they have been there a GREAT while. it takes a few minutes for Coraline Algae to grow on anything and these have a good bit on them.
