Just watch out for all the scams in Bangkok. Don't buy any jewelry and don't take a longtail tour unless the fare is stated up front. I got involved in several scams, knowing I was being scammeed but the scientist in me wanting to see how it worked. Not always a wise path.
However, in my experience the more rural areas of the country are beautiful and the people wonderful... truly the Land of Smiles.
