Easy to show how it done in workshop not so easy me me to put in to words but i will try.
First do not try to bend the springs.
Before we start take the two small springs & run your finger nail around the outer edge,look for any small chips missing.
If so spring are worn out.
Next from kitchen get 2 round dinner plates.put one on top of other not stacked,so all the outer edges are touching.
This is the way that the spring are fitted all outer edges touching,Gap between inner edges.
Hope this makes sense to you & you get the idea.
Re build valve asy.A bit of grease may make it easier to hold things in place.
Do not do a final tighten of the center nut just yet.
Look on each of the outer section of the valve ,Look for small marks,may be a star or a line.These must be in line together.
Then final tighten nut.

They are American how are they going to understand the concept of a dinner plate.
Its all fast food and cartons. But convex and concave may translate. LOL
