Yes I hope your 8 year old cousins can get there ticket at the age of 15. They would have more common sence than to pull in front of a ship !!! Right or Left?
See you topside! Johmn Save the whales

if the Ady Gil hasn't been screwing with the "bigger boat" then they wouldn't have gotten hit.

this was self induced stupidity on their part.

So you are saying that the hazing of earlier in the day is justification for the "at that time" unprovoked attack by the 'Maru?

An attack that perhaps did not intend to make contact but without which contact would have never been made?

And the AG crew who are just kicking back in their not long ago safe part of a big body of water are the ones whose stupidity is to blame?

This must be similar to how Spock felt when forced to have a scientific or academic conversation with Ferengi. :idk:

I have been keeping up with this thread but kept my hands off of the keyboard.

I think the whaler served in. but if you look at another video of it, it shows the whaler turns port before they hit it. it appears they were just "bluffing" or trying to hit it with a wave or get closer with the fire hoses.

then... in the other video, at the last minute, the dumb-asses in the Ady Gil accelerate right into the bow of the whaler.

both groups have responsibilty here.... but taking whether "whaling is right or not" out of it, if the Ady Gil hasn't been screwing with the "bigger boat" then they wouldn't have gotten hit.

this was self induced stupidity on their part.

That's my take on it as well. At the start of the video from the Bob Barker you can see the starboard side of the ship. Later you are seeing the port side. The only way that is possible (if the camera wasn't moving) is for the ship to have turned starboard toward the AG. It does appear at the last second to have changed course to the port too late to avoid collision. That combined with the forward movement of the AG caused the 2 to collide.

IMHO, there are no innocent parties here.

I despise both groups so it should be an unbiased opinion.

Yes!!! You finally get it.. They were to blame, should have left the ship ALONE!!! Play with the bull, you get the horns. They are STUPID!!! :D

The Japanese whaling ship, traveling very fast, make a radial turn to starboard to ram the Ady Gil. The Agy Gil responded by accelerating just before impact, perhaps to avoid being rammed. Again, watch the Japanese video to see the Ady Gil accelerate and throw up a wake just before impact.

perhaps to avoid being rammed..... perhaps to try to cross in front of the ship and didn't accelerate fast enough. trying to cross to crag the rope/nets to foul the propellers.

If she's stayed stationary, she wouldn't been hit.

yes the whaling ship veered in before it hit it... bit wouldn't have hit it if the Ady Gil didn't accelerate.

As the Ady Gil accelerated, the Japanese whaling ship made a last-second correction to port to ensure that it rammed the Ady Gil squarely.

call me crazy.. but port is Left. the Ady Gill was on the right (starboard). how could it make a turn to Port to ram it? (if it was on the right) :idk:

watch the earlier videos of the day. they were seen throwing some sort of "stink grenade" or other chemical grenade on the deck of the ship and also pulling fishing nets on a line trying to cut in front of the ship trying to foul it's propellers (in arctic waters)

attacks like this on the high seas in other parts of the world are called "Piracy".

they were actively attacking the ship earlier in the day. not just "kicking back" as you state.
