I ended up using Spear Gun Stuff...what's it called? - its surgical tubing that sort of fires the spear. Its the bowstring of a speargun... Its the small stuff, not the mega stuff.
Its wider than most of the stuff I've seen others use (surely wider than 1/8") - but its very flexible, very tough, and I can't even tell its there. Its zipped tied (zip tied?) against the corners of the mouthpiece.
