Can a video light double as a stills light?

The strobe is much more powerful than a video light. When you shoot a picture with a strobe using a video light as focus light all the video light does is to illuminate slightly the background and warm up the colours that may turn a bit too red. A video light on its own on the other hand is insufficient for stills because of slow shutter speeds and shake that comes if you shoot at high magnification.
In essence a video light is for video and a strobe is for pictures, a video light only helps the camera to focus
For what concerns strobes with focus light included may or not be good thing depending on how you aim the strobe. In most cases you don't aim the strobe directly so the included focus light points somewhere else. Better results are obtained with a wide focus light on top of the port with an aim and forget approach
