Saw this webcam pic a few minutes ago. Looks like TS Karen is headed northward...

Interesting pix. We were flying in during some storms once and it took three attempts at landing due to the weather. AS we circled around after one failed attempt, we passed pretty close to a waterspout just off the island as we headed back over to the mainland to loop back for another landing try.

I've been close to two waterspouts over the years and don't think they are very strong, more like a dust devil in the desert...certainly never saw a shark fall out of one!

On the backside of Karen, it looks like a good time to water-ski down to Palancar

I think I was on that ship a week ago.

About 25 years ago while boating in Key Largo, I saw about 5-7 waterspouts in all directions. One was close enough to see the water traveling up the funnel. Boats all over were hi-tailing it back towards land.

My old man actually has an enlarged pic of the funnel hanging somewhere. Pretty cool stuff.
