Does anyones' crystal ball show a prediction for conditions for Catalina this weekend? I'm considering canceling my visit. I really hate to do it as we have been looking forward to this trip for months. It's a long drive from Northern California. Any speculations/forcast interpretations to aid me in my difficult decision would be appreciated. Thanks, Lisa

The forecast shows sunny for the rest of the week and temps in the mid-high 60's. Little to no surf. My guess is that things will have calmed down by then and it will be great. Are you planning on diving at the Casino/Avalon, or boat?

and the weather report looks promising, i.e. partly cloudy, mid-high 60's air temps forecast for Saturday. I still plan on going, but I'll be keeping an eye on this board and others just to see if there is any additional feedback. When do you need to make the decision?

My plan is to dive by boat with ScubaLuv on Saturday and then do some shore dives at Casino Point on Sunday. Is there a local conditions line to call or resource for getting an idea of what visibility is like?

I need to make my decision to go or not by tomorrow (Wednesday).

Not a chance kelpmermaid... they are still clearing the landslide off the road that leads to the dive park and Casino and all I could film would be dark brown water. However I'm very optimistic about this weekend... the sun and blue skies have appeared and the forecast looks good the rest of the week. I think the weekend will be a winner!

Had not heard that. Anyway, when you do finally get out there, could you let us know what it's like? Thanks in advance. Hope to see you Saturday.

Will definitely let everyone know, but I doubt I'll be diving before Friday. I did just get a report on conditions yesterday from a DM who gave a guided dive in the park. Visibility wasn't as bad as expected well inside of the park (say 5-15'), probably because there is little direct runoff from the parking area and the boulder groin. At the Sujac end of the park he encountered the "brown cloud" beginning to extend into the park from Avalon Bay's sediment loading.

I do expect decent conditions this weekend... in fact I DEMAND them! LisaP- you're still signed up on the Second Stage according to their dive boat list.

It will be terrible. No viz. Cold cold cold. Crowded, too - zillions of peoples... just like at the end of the last storm, a week ago, huh DrB?

Are we still on, buddy? You up for the long swim? Lemmie know and I'll schlep.

Yep, we're expecting some divers this weekend due to the pent-up demand caused by the days and daze of rain. Just getting the gills wet again will be great.

Yep, as far as I'm concerned the Valiant is a go as long as we can get the permit. Based on my dive last weekend, it has sustained some damage since I dove it a year ago November. Definitely want to get more video footage.

And I enjoy the slow trip back into the dive park... often see bat rays, guitarfish and the like over the sandy bottom outside the park. They are hassled too much inside the park to spend a lot of time there... although with few divers the past week, they may have wandered back in.
