A woman who died while scuba diving near Sunnyside Beach in Steilacoom on Monday has been identified as Leslie Jacobsen, 63, of Yelm.

Medics responded to a 911 call about 2 p.m. of a woman who was not breathing on the beach, said Steilacoom Town Administrator Paul Loveless.

The woman had been diving about 100 feet from shore with a partner at this popular dive spot, and medics were unable to resuscitate her.

I don't know any of the details involved here, but for those of you that don't dive Puget Sound, this is considered a fairly easy, and somewhat boring site. Currents are generally light and the bottom slopes off gradually. Sometimes visibility can be poor though. It is frequently used for a training site by instructors. It has an easy shore entry and parking about 100 yards from the beach.

Slack tide would have been sometime around 1:30.
