I bungee mine to the side of my back under the wing like I've seen on some BP&W 's
it's pretty streamlined (has not gotten caught in kelp) and I can restow it if needed

I like that set up in the video above.

On my dive I ended up folding my SMB and tucking it in the lower half of my BP pad then clipping it off with the real on my rear D ring. I didn't notice it during my dive and it stayed put. I'm going to set up my reel as shown in that video. Thanks
 
It's been mentioned before but just get a bellows pocket that you can thread onto your harness on the right side. use it as well to wrap your long hose under if you don't have a canister light.
 
DGX neoprene shorts with thigh pockets. Smb and reel go in left pocket. Out of the way, secure, and easily accessible. I prefer this to the butt d-ring.
