Of course you can buy four light cannons for the price of a good can light.

I could have bought 4 wetsuits for the price of my drysuit... but somehow, in the water, I'm glad I spent the money.

Same with the lights. Not everyone needs a can light. But when you need one, you'll be very happy you spent the money. Mine came in on a dive here in Florida, when I signaled my buddy and he never saw my light, and kept swimming. I knew right then, I had to get a real light (and a different buddy).

I was just saying, of course it's better. You get what you pay for. For an inexpensive light, the light cannon is pretty bright. Most rec divers will be pretty happy if they drop $150 on a light cannon until they make the leap to a can light. I just took the ballast and bulb from my light cannon to make a home made cannister light, because it's cheeper to buy light cannons than to buy the same ballasts and bulbs from welch allyn.

A good canister light will make the light cannon look like it's not turned on. My buddy used to have one and we'd dive together when I had my 10w HID. Different league.

not true (edit: wild exaggeration) - unless "good canister light" means >10W

In current context, yes, a "good can light" means 18w, 21w, or more with a solid reflector. But even the Salvo 10w with the adjustable head makes the light cannon look like a backup light. Especially in clear open water. In the overhead environment (I tested both side by side at Ginnie Ballroom) the difference was clear and obvious.
