I need help/advice about dive watches which I can use until buying a dive computer.
I've found Swiss Military Sealander at about 160€ is it worth? Is this brand "swiss military" dependable?

Another option is swatch dive watches; which displays depth (up to 40m) and dive time (when submerged more than 1m it starts a chronograph)

Or any budget dependable dive watch which also I can use daily?

thanks

For a watch only ie bottom timer, here's the best one on the market for the money---under $30 US, free shipping(in states) & good to 200 meters(take that GUE....lol)....been using one since '86 or so---on my third one I believe..http://www.amazon.com/Casio-Alarm-Chronograph-Sport-DW290-1V/dp/B000GB1R8M/sr=1-7/qid=1169927132/ref=sr_1_7/105-0851098-4978804?ie=UTF8&s=jewelry

Yep. I have a Casio G-Shock Atomic Solar (good to 200 meters) I picked up on clearance at Sears for $60. Works great and never needs batteries. Online you can get it for $80. I find the digital easy to read.

I also wow them at work with my manly Casio bling.:crafty:

As stated above Casio are good and inexpensive. Also look at Free Style like the Hammer Head rated at 666ft.

I picked up one of these w/ an orange face for $45 on ebay. Plenty of the watch retailers seem to carry them.

It looks reasonable enough to wear as a casual watch as well, and if it's get lost, no biggie. Also comes in black, white and blue faces.

It seems very durable thus far, has a 200m rating, bezel, screw in knob and has a very bright backlight that lights up the whole face, the luminous markers are so bright and large, though they almost make the light up unnecessary.

I have a citizen dive watch, logs a couple of dives, has depth alarm, and most of the bits a proper dive computer has, most importantly large hands and a rotating bezel. The only small problem is on most of the dives if I get it wet too long before the dive (on a rough beach launch) by the time I get to the dive site Ive been locked out! so it gets used as a normal watch! what a pain in the A@#. Apparently its a software problem, but the local agents want me to send it in, it will take about 6 weeks, and cost about $75.
Moral of the story - DONT by one, get a normal swatch (200m resist), and take note of the time you go under, even when you get a proper computer you still have the watch as a back up.

I use a Timex helix DM. Its digital, shows depth and water temp. Will store dives but not downloadable. Timex no longer makes them but there are a few around for sale still. Battery might have to be replaced.

CompuDude:
Never heard of it, looks like a Wenger knockoff.

That said, in all honesty you'd probably get more functionality and equal or better reliability from a cheap Casio G-Shock.

For analog watches, as long as it's rated to 200m and has a screw-down crown and rotating bezel with time marks, it'll probably do fine.
Seconded.

From Istanbul huh, our son for a year and a half, used to be a water sports director for the Wind Star Cruise ships....about half his time was spent on the Athens, Greece to Istanbul 'run'.... the other half was spent in the rest of the Med. to Lisbon, Portugal & trans-Atlantic-ing to Barbabos thru the southern Caribbean thru the Panama Canal to The Pacific coast of Costa Rica...Remember him saying they had to get prior-permission from the Turkish government before they could dive in Turkish waters(ie guests on the ship had to let the boat know days before getting to the dive spots)

Yes you're right, as a new diver I didn't have problem like that (yet) but many scubaboard members, who have visited Turkey, complain about our "strict" rules, though getting permission should be easy except some martial zones (on TSSF web page; Turkey Underwater Sports Federation, these prohibition eras are notified).

also, I would be glad to meet a scubaboard member and dive with
:)
