Hello,

I am planning to do my Rescue and Divemaster course/internship during the summer of 2004 (July and August). I am now searching for a good location to do this. Of importance are:

1. Good intructor/dive school
2. Good diving
3. Cost (I am still a student ) Not only the cost of the course is important but als the cost of living there for 2 months.
4. Nice surroundings (people etc.)

Anyone any advise??

Thank you in advance!

Moalboal (around Cebu) is the place to be, as low as $5 for a hut, $1-2 for dishes. And you can see whaleshark, manta, dolphin, sharks, etc.

Many dive shops also have dive safaris so you can dive around Bohol, Apo, Balicasag Island, Cabilao, Malapascua Island, etc..

Went to Perhentian the other time... must say that the guys at FloraBay Divers are cool bunch of people.

The service is great - food simply wonderful and absolutely love the hammocks strewn on the beach.

Could try my old favourite... Ko tao (Thailand).

Cheap accom ie 150b - 200b per night min. (£3.00)
Cheap food and booze.
Lots of bars and night clubs if you want that.
Small island and all very friendly people.

Loads of dive shops there, personally would recommend either Asia Divers, good atmosphere, good people and they'll do discount for further courses. Also manager (Guy Corsellis) works really hard to get job placements for people who've done instructor / dm courses with him on the island and he's one of the most respected owners on the island.

Good luck with course wherever you go.

Greg.

HEY MOUSY, I WILL BE DOING MY DIVEMASTER AND TRAINING AROUND THEN, DID ALOT OF RESEARCH AND SHORTENED IT TO 2 PLACES
MOSKITO DIVERS -PHI PHI AND NOTRH BORNEO SEA SPORTS, SABAH MALAYSIA. THE RATES ARE REASONABLE9AMONG THE CHEAPEST) AND THE DIVE SITES ARE WONDERFULL AND NEW TO ME.THE ONE IN SABAH IS CLOSE TO GREAT SITES LIKE SIPADAN AND MABUL ETC AND ITS PROBABLY THE CHEAPER WAY TO DIVE THAT MAGICAL ISLAND SIPADAN AT MUCH CHEAPER RATES.HELL MAYBE EVEN FREE, IF YOU WILL BE DOIN IT AS A DIVEMASTER BY FOLLOWIN YOUR INSTRUCTOR.I LOVE PERHENTIAN ISLAND.DID MY OPEN WATER THERE. LONG BEACH IN THE SMALL ISLAND.

I was on Pulau Besar in the Perhentians this spring and I'd say Flora Bay runs a great operation. It meets all your criteria, and it's a lovely setting.
Good luck with your choice. All the places mentioned sound good!
