Folks it is possible they are telling the truth and the body could have drifted that far in seven years. I'm not defending any crime or unethical behavior but I think the people involved should be afforded the same due process that each and every one of us would demand for ourselves.

From what I read, the diver's body was found inside of the wreck, between the middle and bottom hull. It would be quite the coincidence if the body drifted that far in seven years and then found its way inside of the wreck. If you think that it is possible that his dive buddies might be telling the truth, any defendants in a trial would want you on the jury. Just call me a cynic.

News 1

The trial is over. Friends of Robert will not face any punishment for giving false information as to where they were diving.

The organizer of the trip was the only person fined for the equivalent of about $1200.

The procurator agreed with the sentence as fair. He is nevertheles appraling the sentence on procedural grounds arguing that wrong regulations were used as basis for the case.

Procurator found out Robert couldn’t be helped by his friends. His dive computer showed he ascended for a short period of time then went straight to the bottom fast.

Are you saying the friends were charged and convicted of lying about the location but received no punishment? Or that they were not convicted?

None of the companions of Robert Szlechta, a Poznań diver who drowned in the Baltic Sea a few years ago, will be punished for making false statements. According to Onet, the indictment only covered the organizer of the expedition, who participated in the collusion.

Robert Szlecht went missing at the end of July 2012 while diving with friends near Łeba. The man's colleagues who reported him missing said they lost contact with him while descending to the wreckage of Terry. The search was unsuccessful.

The diver is dead. He died in the wreckage of MS Wilhelm Gustloff

According to Onet , during the investigation it turned out that the testimonies of the man's colleagues are not consistent. The man's family argued that Szlecht told him that he was going to visit the shipwreck of Wilhelm Gustloff.

Diving in its vicinity, however, is strictly prohibited and considered very dangerous. The man's friends may have wanted to hide the fact that they were participating in the illegal expedition with him.

The diver is dead. His colleagues will not suffer the consequences

According to Onet 's information , none of Robert Szlecht's colleagues will be punished. The men were to lie at the interrogations and put the search team in unnecessary danger. However, the indictment only covered the organizer of the expedition.

The captain received a penalty of 4.5 thousand. PLN fine. The head of the Lębork prosecutor 's office informed Onet that the sentence imposed on the captain was considered right by both him and the prosecutor in charge of the case.

Nevertheless, the prosecutor's office appealed against the verdict on formal grounds. In her opinion, the court applied the wrong rules. The case is therefore to take place in court in the normal manner.

According to the information provided to Onet by the prosecutor Patryk Wegner, there is no penalty for not providing help, because no one was able to save the diver.

"The experts read the records from the specialist Szlecht 's watch , which monitored his position - they showed that after the dive, he had a short moment in which he floated up, and then he went to the bottom very quickly. The evidence shows that the colleagues did not know about his problems under the water and at first they waited calmly for it to flow out. When they realized that something was wrong, it was too late "- we read on the Onet website.

Wilhelm Gustloff. A German passenger ship sank in 1945

The body found in the shipwreck was discovered on June 6, 2019 by divers from the Baltictech group, who, under the consent of the Maritime Office in Gdynia, prepared documentation of the condition of the sunken vessel. The VTS Zatoka vessel traffic control system, the police and the prosecutor's office in Lębork informed about the incident. Half a year later, DNA tests of the remains revealed that it was Robert Szlecht, missing in 2012. According to investigators, the cause of the man's death was drowning.

The MS Wilhelm Gustloff was a German passenger ship in the fleet of the Nazi organization Kraft durch Freude. It was named after a member of the Nazi Party, Wilhelm Gustloff, who was murdered in 1936. It sank in January 1945 in the worst sea disaster in history, killing 6,600 people. In 1994, Poland recognized the wreckage of MS Wilhelm Gustloff as a war grave. Therefore, it is forbidden to dive within 500 meters of it.
