Hi! My hubby and I are planning to visit family in Houston and were wondering if there were any good dive stops close by (2 hours or less). We have all our equipment except tanks (need a place to rent those) and are recently AOW certified. We were looking to go just for a day. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks

Diving on the rigs in the Gulf can be a really good day trip. Here's a couple of links to charter operations; there are others:

My trips out there have been with friends who have boats, so I'm really not in a position to make any personal recommendation on the above links or any of the other charter operations. A lot of trips to the rigs end up getting cancelled due to weather conditions. Conditions are variable and can change rapidly. If you want to spearfish -- or don't want to be on a boat with spearfishers -- you'll want to ask about the policy on the boat.

TPH is right. You'll have to rent a tank, but you can get refills at the lake for about $6.00.

Regards,

Thanks all! We have a fishing charter planned for one day and can maybe check out the upcoming conditions in the Gulf then. We have access to the family boat so a Gulf dive isn't out of the question. The scuba park sounds great though. We like fresh water and quarries. Any places near the park to rent tanks? Thanks!!!

Yes the park has tanks to rent also.$10ea
