I have made my own camera tray, but out of (various) plastics, no AL

Bottom tray made out of a cheap cutting board
Handles: 1/2" x 5" PVC, 5/8" x 1/4" x 3/4" Nylon Spacer (placed inside the PVC), bicycle grips from amazon, threaded rod, various nuts, locline base
Place the nylon spacers inside the PVC. This will have a hole in the center for the threaded rod
Cut the "tops" off the bike grips
Slip the bike grips on the PVC

I don't abuse it, but it has been solid since I made it in Nov 2012. Maybe that will be helpful

Check out Snake River Prototyping's tray. It's the best I've found. You can try and replicate one of those.

Thanks to @tursiops for catching my screw up!
