A really great option for you with a new diver would be:
Scuba Tony Dive Instruction, Cozumel Mexico
They are very, very patient with new divers, and will make sure your young diver is well taken care of. Boats are well maintained and clean, crews are always friendly and helpful. Check trip advisor for reviews.

Tony also now has a rental house. I have stayed there and it is in a fantastic location. More affordable than a hotel, and more space to spread out for multiple people:

Whoever you dive with, if you get a good briefing about drift diving and managing the current you should be fine. Lots of people get certified in Coz and go there as new divers. And lots of not still young divers as well
