Ear problem, Not certified scuba diver yet, lots of questions

The eustachian tubes into the middle ear are through the sinuses. For me, I have chronic sinus infections and if I am in an active flare up it is so simple to push just the tiniest amount of mucous into the middle ear and viola, ear infection. With the fluid in your middle ear that may also be one of the possible problems in addition to what the good doctor said above. So I tend to be a little careful and practice good nasal hygiene when I am diving. Still happens from time to time but I have it better controlled. Of course the two sinus surgeries have helped as well.
