Not sure there is a mola vs dolphin law as you stay, Dan.
My first sighting of 3 molas happened on manta bay depth while we had dolphins escorting our boat. They sure had scared the mantas away on surface but still not the molas at 28m depth.

Lucky you.

I was just passing the local DM experience after years of diving there.

Coincidentally, my wife just sent me a link to this:
Brighton Pier surrounded by pod of 30 dolphins

This is very rare around here but there's now been sightings once a year for the last 3 years. The guy got some decent footage. It was filmed very near to me, you can practically see my house when the camera pans round to the seafront. Its given me dolphin envy, again - twice in 2 days now!

That's pretty amazing ! It must have been quite a circus at Crystal Bay !

I have never seen dolphins on scuba in my 1000+ dives in South East Asia.

In the Red Sea however I have been lucky enough to have several encounters, it seems to be fairly common there from what local guides tell me...

Here are 2 funny dolphins imitating divers in Socorro that my dive buddy sent me.

Apparently Underwater Tribe had molas mantas and whalesharks on a dive yesterday - their FB page has a good rundown of what was seen on a single dive. Impressive.

I am glad you follow our FB page :)

Today at Crystal Bay with World Diving: A reef manta cruised by upon entering water and descending, then our DM spotted mola right after nearby, being cleaned at about 35-40m... And we saw the pod of dolphins there, too... But only during our surface interval... Lots of fun today, can't wait for tomorrow:wink:

A quick gopro screenshot from a video (slow internet)...

Since we are on epic Indonesia dive thread - last week my wife watched 100 or so mantas in southern Komodo. I kid you not. As my wife explained it to me, her group joined a super large aggregation of mantas were gliding, flipping, and cleaned at a mass feeding event. After she returns home, I will try to post images.

postscript - my wife finally has decided to purchase a GoPro after years of avoiding all UW cameras
