Let me start by stating that I am not DIR, nor do I claim to have any magical scuba powers & wisdom. I have been looking in the DIR Fourm, and it's easy to get flamed there. That is why I am posting in this fourm.

Okay, why is it the DIR philosophy does not support a console or retractors?

Be gentle. :kopfab:

Flaming is not allowed in the DIR forum. Your quesiton is better suited there.

But to answer your question, retractors are a failure point and are not needed. A console is not DIR as all you have clipped off is the spg, all other items (bottom timers, compass, watch) are worn on the wrists, hence no need for a console.

I'm not DIR either, and can tell you first hand that if you go into their forum and ask (without belittling them) they will be more than happy to explain why.
On a side note, someone pointing out that you are giving non-DIR answers in a DIR forum is not a flame, just a correction. Go ask them, they love to talk as much as us non DIR guys.

And I see Wendy has already got you covered.

As Wendy said flaming is not allowed in the DIR forum. You'll be safe.

We do alll agree you will get more answers there.

Is is OK with you if I move it?

I have no problem with moving the post. I have read many posts on the DIR Fourm lately. Non-DIR'rs can get picked apart pretty quick in there.

Just playing the Devils Advocate.

If you have an SPG clipped off why not have it all clipped off in one compact package. Having seperate bands for the Compass, Computer and what ever add another failure point for Each item. Items that are wrist mounted are at a far greater rish of being lost than on a console.

I'm not saying I support one or the other just mentioning a couple of things. You need to wear an item in a fashion that is the most comfortable and accessable to you.

I think it's more a pain in the @#$ to clip/unclip that SPG to look at your remaining air. But I guess that if you are DIR, you know your SAC rate and can basicly estimate the remaining air by monitoring your timer........
