As long as you don't count the Russian flight last October... killing 224. The planes in seven months isn't a good thing. (Assuming this recent one crashed as a result of a bomb, and I don't think that there's anything other than speculation in this case...)
I am the least one to be paranoid, but the OPs wife may be on to something. Admittedly, the odds of being on a plane brought down by a terrorist are slim, but they're probably many times greater in the Middle East than they would be flying to many of the other great dive spots in the world.

Typically bombs blow up close to takeoff rather than close to landing. Either way security will be even tighter flying in from Europe. By no means advertise flying in the Middle East but I would not stop flying just because of this incident or any other like it.
