Thanks for useful info here. I'm planning to take a DM in Ko Tao myself in May/June. Was thinking about about somewhere in the Philippines or Sulawesi just for going somewhere new. But I guess I'll make a safe bet an go to Ko Tao since I've been there twice already.

I did my DM course in Pattaya over an 8 month period. It was great! Try running the boats and learning the currents / conditions in Koh Tao! I think they only do it once for a sign off, which is not a DM in my opinion.
