Has anyone used them? What did you think? I have been looking at dive shops online today and spoke with a couple of them on the phone. These people were very nice and seemed to understand that I'm a little nervous since I am new to diving (completing my OW dives this weekend). They said I could hire a guide which is the advice some of you have given me. One of the other shops that is frequently mentioned here and gets positive reviews made me feel a little like I had nothing to fear and that I really didn't need a guide. I got a better feeling after speaking with Fl. Keys Dive Center but don't know anything about them.

I have dove with them several times and each time they were fantastic. The boats were never overcrowded and the staff was helpful. I've not used them for training or escorted dives, but from my interactions with them, I think you'll be fine.

If you are nervous it makes good sense to have a dive professional with you. Anyone that tells you otherwise is doing you a disservice.

I have never been diving with the Florida Keys Dive Center but I learned with Silent World Dive Center in Key Largo 12 years ago and have been diving with them every year since (except here and there to try different areas but we keep coming back). Not sure what Key you are staying on but they would be a good back up if you should not like FKDC. Good luck, the Keys are a GREAT place to learn!!

I have used FL Keys Dive Center a few times and they are great. Their boats are kept in great shape, the crew is courteous and knowledgeable. However, if you don't have a buddy, they will pair you on the boat and that is always a crap shoot, unless you hire your own guide. There is a LDS just a few more miles south - Key Dives - that sends a guide with every group, so you don't have to worry about buddying. They can also help you complete your OW. Give them a call, they are a good alternative.

i personally have not dove with FL Keys Dive Center, but i have dove with Conch Republic Divers and Cristal Clear Charters. Cristal Clear was great, but I believe they went out of business (we were their last charter). Conch republic is a great operation as well. Great diving locations, good staff, and good boats. I would highly recommend them.

I went diving with florida keys dive center for the first time in May and had a great time. Staff all very knowledgeable and nice. Plan to go back in spring hopefully and do my IDC with them. Boats are very good size and well kept.

My wife and dive buddy and I used FLAKE for our Advance Open Water certification several years ago on a referral from our New Jersey dive shop. They were great. Felt very comfortable with the instruction, and the diving.
