On Saturday I plan to do a single quick 20 min dive to just 30ft which will put me in group C (might be less since NAUI tables start at 40ft).

Later than evening (6 hrs later) I've been invited to ride along with another pilot friend (he'll be pilot in command, not me) in his plane for a quick dinner run to a nearby airport. We will be flying at at an absolute maximum altitude of 4000 ft, but probably 3000 ft. This is less than half the altitude that a commercial flight is usually pressurized to.

Is 6 hrs enough time for this for it to be safe? Just to play it really safe I can also do a 5 min SS at 15ft as I'm coming up.

Whadda ya think?

My opinion is to not take the flight at all, but this discussion will give you probably better opinions :D

--EDIT--

I love learning and thanks to boulderjohn, have learned something completely new. Thanks for the education :)

I wouldn't do it. Too bad you can't at least space them out to 12 hours apart. Guess it's just one of those cases there just isn't the call for any extensive testing, which would be tricky to do anyway.

Difficulty is that the NDL's are based on not flying for set periods - if you breach those periods then it renders the NDL irrelevant for dive planning.

No different from exceeding your maximum ascent rate - the table/computer that you are using assumes you won't come up faster than a set rate, exceed that and the calculations are meaningless.

Here is a link to the NOAA tables and their ascent to altitude table. You will see that you are well within their recommended limits--not even close.

Enjoy the flight.

Just when I didn't think an objective affirmative answer would be possible. Nice Job!

20-minutes dive to 30-ft depth is nothing. You're not even close to your NDL much less worry about nitrogen loading enough for flying.

Hell, if you're that worried about it, then do it with 40% nitrox.

I was also going to say it's probably no problem, but didn't have facts to back it up with other than 30' is getting somewhat close to safety stop depth.
