12 ft's a big gator. I start worrying about them when they get bigger than 10 ft. Below that, and they're more afraid of me than I am of them.

Having pulled a 6' and an 8' gator off their victim, I don't trust them when they're bigger than me. Normally any gator is not a dire threat (outside of mating season), but once they've been fed by humans, that changes.

I am not a fan of diving fresh water..but if I needed to be in the water where gators would likely be, this would be essential gear ( and fun to have) along with the scuba tank :

As I think about it, this is cool enough to make you want to go out and buy one, and then go diving in North Florida fresh water ...for the fun of it

the coroner report does not prove anything exempt the gator chewed on him. Could have been post mortem.

Most gator attacks of a living animal involve missing appendages. Gators latch on and spin. I don't know if they do that to dead animals, but they might not feel they need to. Who knows?

Gators can't chew. I suspect it's still spin, to tear a smaller piece off.

True, but feeding on a bigger animal is a few days away. They allow them to decompose a bit before they dig in.

That's almost right... they really, really like BARKING dogs. You might think it's funny how your terrierist is harrassing that gator. The gator will always get in the last word and you won't be laughing. They seem to respect cats though. Something about messing with the King of the Beast's closest cousin I believe.

Yeah they do. My JRT loves to go fishing with me. Usually when I run up near gators they will swim out away from me and slowly watch/follow me until I leave the area. But when my mutt is with me, they will get closer and closer. My boat isn't particularly big, so I usually just move out when they start getting within casting distance.

This happened at a boat ramp I use to fish salt water (its at the mouth of a couple rivers). Brazen alligator eats unleashed dog


Also why I keep the mutt in the truck, then leash walk him to the boat. And he is good/obediant enough that I don't walk him on a leash at any other time.
