What is with the glow tubes in the piano room? Are decorations like that normal in FL caves?

That lighting is unique to Vortex.

What, exactly, is an "airbox"?

Vortex has a couple of "air boxes" sunk. It's a steel box with legs on it. I'd say they are 4' by 4' by 2' high. Filled with air.

you can stick your head up in them, take your reg out of your mouth and talk to your fellow diver. hold about 2 people max without banging your tanks on the side walls. (though I've seen more in them).

I think there is one up in the basin and one in the piano room. (someone correct if I'm wrong).

Air or carbon dioxide?

I've only been to Vortex once (First day of Cavern/Intro) The photos reinforce my opinion it has to be the ugliest cave in Florida!!

like an upside-down half of a 55 gallon drum sort of thing, bob. or an upside-down bathtub.

Once you get past the well traveled area and off the main line, it's rather pretty.
Thanks. Maybe one of the times you fly down to Florida you can show me around.
