Hi every one.
Just got a dive in today.
It has been 5 week since I have been under water.
We still had open water then.
My gills were drying out and I needed to resaturate them.
Here in Kingston we had a air temp of -8c. this afternoon, but not a cloud in the sky.
So I got the chain saw out and went down to the lake to check the ice.
Got my G.P.S. out, and walked out onto the ice, found my spot about 1000 feet from shore.
shoveled a inch of snow off of the ice, to reveal almost crystal clear ice.
Thinking to myself, man I hope that my blade on the saw was long enough.
To my surprize there was 15 inches.
Within 15 minutes I had a nice 4x6 foot hole, with 40 feet of water under it.
Visibilty was about 60 feet, pretty good for this time of year,
The area I had cut the hole is a great place for looking for old bottles.
Within 15 minutes I was rewarded with 2 old beer bottles and 3 hand blown bottles.
15 min. later the fish start showing up to check me out
Small mouth bass, lots of salamanders on the bottom, a group of 5 carp, 1 about 30 pounds. Yea a nice one. also 2 sheepshead that stayed with me for the next 10 minutes.
total bottom time 45 min., water temp 33f., max depth 42 feet.
Way cool dive!
So much that ,now the hole is cut I will be going back next saturday.
If anyone is in the area next saturday
"The more the merrier!"
