back when I was buying my gopro stuff (Oct '13), there were all sorts of problems with Sandisk's high end cards. They were labeled as Class 10, but when actually tested, they did not meet the Class 10 specifications (or even come close), so I avoided them. Don't know if they cleaned up their act or not. I know at one point, GoPro yanked Sandisk from their approved list on their website because their cards were crap. Straight up false advertising if you ask me.

Do you have any link described this event?
I never heard about any issue with Sandisk SD and I buy it permanently.
Maybe it was was "one girl/friend said" story?

It was a hot topic on forums, including this one. Here are a couple threads:

If I remember it correctly, it was affecting mostly the 64gb cards. Haven't heard much since then, apparently firmware updates were able to address the issues.

Had the exact same problems with Sandisk cards that would not write at their rated speed. GoPro released new firmware which reduces the bitrate in Protune when the camera detects a Sandisk card, for that reason. I don't know if Sandisk cards have improved or what the current firmware is like.

Your problems in general are almost certainly due to old firmware. I went through the exact same thing, camera would freeze constantly, have to start it before a dive and let it run continuously, it gets hot then fogs no matter what you try, battery runs out before the dive is over, etc etc. I experienced this on a trip to Raja Ampat during which I wanted to smash the thing. Got rid of it when I got home and bought a proper camera and never looked back.
