Hi! I will be flying into Miami International Airport on March 10th and will be meeting up with friends in Key Largo to dive the Speigel Grove and Duane. I have a couple of questions perhaps you can help me with.

Is there ground transportation directly from MIA to Key Largo?(I don't want to rent a car)

Is there any scheduled air service between MIA and Key Largo?

Can any one recommend a decent motel/hotel near Slate's
Atlantis Dive Centre?

Thanks in advance. Best regards; jbm

Sorry, cant help you. I usually rent a car and drive down. What is your aversion to renting a car?
Other than that, look for bus service or train.

The friends I will be meeting up with in Key Largo will have a rented van, so I would rather not cough up a drop off charge on a rental of my own.

I've done the bus service before. I would not recommend it for a diver. It takes FOREVER, and your gear often gets smushed.

And I am unaware of any passenger rail service in the Keys. For that matter I've never seen a working train in the Keys, period.

Well, outside of a bus (which as mentioned is a nightmare), limo service (which will be mucho expensivo), flying into the keys, or your friends picking you up, you are SOL...

Passenger train service was the original joining of The Keys - long since replaced with The Overseas Hiway. Certainly not plane service, as it's only an hour's drive.

Here's info on the bus: http://www.greyhound.com/

And limo service, which would be nicer: http://www.limolinkexchange.com/llx/miami_limo.html

Depending on how long you'll be there, though, I'd rent a car before I'd take the bus.

I don't rmember anything really close to Capt Slates dock, as it's on a spur road, turn where you see a large vulture puppet sitting on a car - for real. The closest motels I recall to that end are Kelly's and his ex-wive's place, Amy Slates. But then, nothing is very far from each other on Key Largo. My favorite is Hungry Pelcican / Sunset Cove.

There is an airport in Marathon, and there are flights out of MIA... however, it certainly isn't my fondest flying memory.
