I'm heading to Guam next month and I'm looking for some recommendations as to dive shops, sites, et al.

Here's a list (look under Dive Operators): http://www.mymicronesia.com/guam/
Briefly inquired with MDA, and was looking at Guam Tropical Dive Station for a Wreck Charter on the Tokai Maru/Cormoran . . .

:D

What dive shop to use in Guam there are only two that speek English GTDS and MDA. The other shops do not have English speaking DM's. I live on the island of Saipan and have used both shops many times and have nothing bad to say about either one. But if you want good diving get on Cape or Freedom air and take the 15 min flight to the island of Rota. The water there is very clean better visability and not as busy with Asian tourist. When in Rota use Dive Rota owner is Mark. He is the only English dive shop on that island.

Lars,

I lived there for 2 years and found that there are quite a lot of good shore diving locations. Try these sites for a list of dive sites on Guam.

Also a very good book on the subject if you can find it is "Diver's Guide to Guam and Micronesia" by Tim Rock.

Hope you have a good trip.

I spent a number of weeks on Guam in 2003 and found the folks at MDA to be great. They have two Newton 46's and a small boat that takes groups of 4 to 6 out. Their crews were always knowledgeable and helpful. The most important thing is they were very safety conscious, They used the DAN tag system in 2003, they kept track of each divers depth & time and discouraged what could be considered unsafe diving like reverse profiles. They also had a hang bar with a number of regs hanging at 15 feet in case anyone ran out of air. (I never had to use this amenity)

Here is a link to their web site:

Check out their boat schedule.
