I hope youll check out fine and Im kinda surprised you didnt go straight to a doctor to get checked out

Thanks DD....more than likely, we will be headed to the ER or somewhere similar, later today...In the absence of knowing anything about this issue yet, I am thinking an MRI is the first test of interest.....but that is also what I have posted here for :)
I would first order a CT, it will give lots of information without the hassle of preauthorization, for most insurances. Things to look for would be a slight bleed, abnormal size of the ventricles. Bleeds into the epidural space can take awhile to manifest. Any shift from a hematoma will be easily seen on CT.
Then, of course a neurology consult/workup. This sounds like post-traumatic brain injury but who knows what happens to a newly injured brain when its taken to depth? The other thing to consider is of course a TIA. I've never seen a TIA manifest as amnesia or blackout so that seems strange.
I can't believe the Captain allowed you to go in for the second dive when you were acting strangely.
First thing, just get your butt to the neurologist for a CT and or MRI.

You bought a new helmet, right?

Better yet, you bought TWO, so the next time you crash and crack your helmet (as we all know they are designed to do) you can throw it away and use the other one.

Agree. A CT without contrast will likely be the first choice but the doctor that evaluates you will be in the best position to make this choice. Also don't hesitant to see your PCP if you can't get right into a specialist. They can do an initial evaluation and tests as indicated or set you up for urgent/emergent consultation if indicated. Two months without symptoms would be unusual but post concussive symptoms can last for some time...

Get a new helmet...cracked is less then useless. I know you know that!

Good luck and keep us posted!

Lisa

Dan,

Speaking as someone who woke up to a wife having a grand mal seizure in the middle of the night while attached to a chemo infusion pump, you will be in my prayers. I don't know you or your life situation. Do you have medical insurance? I'd see what DAN says and get a reference for a neurologist who is hopefully in your plan. Please get this taken care of cause I'd hate for something to happen to you or otherwise get worse.

BTW, just to be clear, you *ARE* officially grounded from diving until cleared by a dive doctor. Don't make me come over there my friend.

Chris

I truly wish you the best. You really need to get to an MD ASAP. I do not think that this has anything to do with diving in that, if I read it properly, the memory lost started before you even parked you truck. If the diving had some effect then it might be the post dive repeating yourself. Please take care.

I worry a bit about the time that's been lost while trying to out-think the people right there in your town who spent years getting medical degrees so they'd know what to do when you show up. I wish you well, Dan.

I am at Delray Med Ctr NOW...just had a CT scan.....should know more soon...
Thanks for all the advice...

To answer some of the questions....
....I did replace the helmet after this last crash...

why did I not go to the ER right after the dive yesterday...or...why did I not get a CT scan right after the bike crash...You guys know me..-)

Ct scan shows nothing....blood work nothing.....Doc will be in soon to chat...

It's good to hear you are getting it looked at. Even though we haven't met, I'd hate to see a fellow troll get hurt diving.
