I just bought a Hartenberger Nano Compact light, in a lot of camera gear. This is WAY more than I would have ever spent for a light as a single purchase, but I have to say that it is pretty darn nice!

The light has adjustable intensity, and a quite wide/diffuse beam. It doesn't blank during strobe, so I am wondering whether it will create any "hot spot" issues if I use it for a focus light?

If you are using any reasonably powered strobes it will be absolutely no problem.
