Hi! I'm Cathy, and I just joined the Scuba Board. I'm 54, have a dive training and travel business called Maranatha! Divers in Lansdale, PA and have been diving since 1996. I'm currently a NAUI Instructor Trainer, and also hold certifications in ice diving, UW photo, cavern and cave diving. I really enjoy the warm water trips to the Caribbean, but since I live in PA I've also come to enjoy NJ wreck diving and quarry dives, too. I dive dbl HP steel 80's, nitrox whenever possible and always in a drysuit when it's in these cooler waters. I enjoy teaching all types of students (male and female), but especially enjoy working with the timid or fearful student (mostly women here!) I'm looking forward to some good chats/threads here at the board. Any of you lwho dive Dutch Springs in need of a buddy, let me know!

Welcome to the board Cathy... You are bringing lots of experience here and that is greatly appreciated by us "newbies". Glad you're here .

Welcome to the board!

Thanks for all the welcomes! Hey, have any of you heard anything about it being unsafe to use HP steel tanks for nitrox?

Welcome to SB, hope your expeirance can help some of our new members.

Another urban legend.

Been using HP steels for many years. No problem here. My tanks are VIP's at lease yearly and not one bit of rust. I have eight HP tanks.

You can if you are not careful destroy these tanks (as with any other steel tanks LP or HP).

My tanks may also sit for a couple months at presssure too (some say the extra O2 will cause rust). Again, this is a function of the quality of your local fill station.

What I do find disturbing are LDS's venting all the gas out to refill the tanks with Nitrox. This can cause moisture to enter.

With a little bit of math and proper equipment, an analyzed tank can be re-filled over and over without venting. I know of only one shop in my area who does this. They are good at it and only charge for the amount of O2 added.

Glad you found us! This is a great place to spend your SI, but watch out, it's addictive!

You'll find many of your neighbours hang out in the Wreck Valley forum
