Hello ScubaBoard!

We are just about to start on our confined & open water dives after passing our theory exams, and we're really looking forward to many wonderful experiences in the years to come. We chose to do a private class, and have met our instructor already, who seemed like a very good match for us. We'll do the OWD in drysuits due to cold waters.

Very much out of our comfort zone, but oh so exciting!!

Just relax, remember your training and have FUN! Good luck, I know you'll do well.

Were in Norway are you taking your course? And which agency?

Thank you :)

OFDS.
We're both a bit scared and super excited at the same time, but it'll be fun . :)
You'll be in good hands with them. They have been in the game a loong time.
Nothing to be scared about. Go slow. Eat a good breakfast (and bring food with lots of calories. Chocolate, grans warm chocolate with sugar and H-melk, Plenty proteins in the morning, and lots of carbs during the day)
No cotton. And layers of wool. (If you really want to cheat, bring a thermos of hot water to heat the hood before the second dive...)

Hope you have a good time, and that you're happy with the class. A 2-on-1 class sounds like a good idea, gives you more time with the instructor to get comfortable. Plan to go diving regularily after the class, as it can take some time to gain confidence under water, and you want to take advantage of the momentum. There are many places you can go diving with other people, like DUK thursday/sunday, Prodykk tuesdays, and of course OFDS sundays. Feel free to send a DM if you have any questions. There is a lot of good second hand equipment you can get on Finn.no.

Thank you so much for the tips! We'll certainly follow your advice here for clothing and food/drink.
We are pretty sure we made the right decision to go with OFDS, and we feel confident that our instructor will give us a great start on our path.

Thanks for the advice about going regularly, we already have the OFDS Sundays in mind, but did not know about the other places.
We decided early that we wanted a private class to be able to learn properly, instead of being stressed and distracted by others.

OFDS and Prodykk might be more comfortable in the beginning as it's shore diving. DUK has a boat, so you can get around to different dive spots, but you should be comfortable deploying a marker bag (SMB) and waiting in the water to get picked up. It's a very nice way to dive once you feel more comfortable. And of course there are many shore dive spots you can go on your own as a buddy pair, but it's nice to dive around other people and get to know the community, especially when you're starting out.

Is a wool base layer enough under the thermal layer? (sorry if asking basic questions here)
Thermos filled with hot water is noted :D
