Ok so I am having a dilemma here.

I broke down my doubles to singles so I can dive with my son's until I go back to needing them again in the far future(2 years). So I am looking at a new first stage. I decided on HOG because I can get parts without having to go to Fleabay.

Also I will be converting the regs I have now back to yoke and giving them to my son's to use. that is the reason for new regs.

So I have tried to find out a discussion on a D2 sealed(don't really need it, Florida and not planning on Ice diving)vs D3 unsealed. I see no threads anywhere about them. The D3 has the swivel the D2 is at a good price of $50 less than the D3.

Oh and I was almost ready to go with the D2 when I was told about a discount. It really was not that big of one and that made the $50 difference or it would be a $60 difference.

What would you go with and why?

As someone who dives all the HOG regs I will list them in order of my personal preference and why.
HOG D-1. The original HOG reg I started with. I own nine of them now. Three older ones I use for the training class but could put them into service at any time. I like the hose routing for doubles and sidemount with the 5th port on the end. I like the finish and how easy it is to service.
D-2 - These are my stage regs. Compact and only two hoses coming off of them so they make a nice clean package.
D-3 - Only using one right now. Higher flow rate than the D2 or D3. Not that the average diver would even notice but the tests say so. The turret design swivels so that with hoses on it will still rotate 36 degrees. Nice for sidemount use. The angle of the turret ports also make it a nice single tank reg. Whether with a long hose set up or standard recreational.

If I could only choose one? I'm biased yes but the D3 is what I would go with for the turret and what it allows me to do. Also the new D3's and all HOG regs actually are going to be sealed only. Once the current stock is gone of unsealed, only sealed regs will be sold. Good for divers and techs as it means easier rinsing and maintenance.

Thanks everyone.

One note about the d2 I did not like the angle of the hosees coming off of mine when it was attached to the tank it seemed to always have one hose sticking straight out toward my head went with the d1 and been very happy with them but Im picky.

Jim, which one has the best hose routing for a diving a back mounted single? Tnx.

It's a toss up between the D3 and D1. I use the D1 for myself and students. I run the long hose out of the bottom port which leaves both top ports on the one side to set the optimum angle for MY hoses on the turret. I run mine out of the front most one. I have one student who likes to use the rear one. The angle also depends on whether or not you're using LP ports on the other side for BC inflator alone or it and a dry suit.
