This summer I'll br on a liveaboard in Oz, they e-mailed me and asked if I neede a Din fitting, ..............why would I need one? Are the tanks different in Oz?

They have both styles....just like here.
 
Australia uses the standard Yoke, the dive operator was just being prudent/polite in case you had a DIN regulator.

I think Europe is the where DIN is most popular
 
Don't make the mistake of diving in the caribbean with DIN (if you are unpreparred). Not only are nearly 100% of all the resort shops yolk ... none of them have convertors in stock. If you have DIN and go without your convertor, plan to dive on rental stuff <he he>
