Diving in conditions where the air temperature approaches -18° C/0° F/ or lower creates a much higher incidence of equipment malfunction, immediate icing of divers and gear upon surfacing, increased risk of hypothermia and frostbite, and generally uncomfortable conditions on the surface. Therefore, whenever possible, limit ice diving to air temperatures of -12° C/10° F/ or higher, and to wind chill conditions less than -4° C/25° F.
