Can anybody tell me what this is ? Took the pic in November in the upper Fl Keys.
I thought somebody on the boat called it a pipefish??? Not a trumpet I've seen them before. Thanks, Ed

maybe a needlefish?
How big is it?
My first guess would have been a trunpet fish..
I saw a pipe fish once, and it was only a few inches long.

It was about 18-24" in length. Trumpet fish that I've seen have been out of water and the snout is not so pointy and actually flares out like a trumpet. :06:

hmmm...hard to tell as the picture doesn't show the snout...Cornetfish are long and skiny too, but are very neutral in color...looking at the pic and by the size I would say trumpetfish too....but what do I know...:06:

Edit: The tail of the fish in your 2nd pic looks very much like a trumpetfish...

I agree. The tail looks very much like a trumpet fish.
A cornet fish has a "whip" on its tail.

Have you guy's looked at the second image if you zoom you can see it's eyes and head and it looks small and very eel like. And what about that wide body flare??

Are you sure it's the head? looks like the tail end to me..

Look at the trumpetfish in the link I provided
