Teresa, Glycerin (Josh), and I meet up at the Catalina Express in L.B. at about 5:30 as planned. We checked in and boarded the Express at 6:15am. The ride over was a little bumpy and rocked (literally). Off the boat and into a taxi. at the point and into our gear and the first dive was on. Josh dived his Pinnacle 7mm with a vest, and I dived my dust collecting drysuit. We ended up doing 4 dives in all. The first we went out to see the Kismet and the glassbottom boat. The last time I seen them they were together. Suprise, just the Kismet was there we looked around, but, no glassbottom boat. Does anyone know were it went?:D Our second dive we went along the kelp and reefs to the left. We went to the two trees(or poles?) and looked for Oscar. He was hiding, we never found him. There was a huge school of smelt, intermingled with various other fish, that was amazing to watch. Our third and forth dives were to the right. we investigated small caves, holes and every nook and crevase we could find, there were a million banded gobies, black eyed gobies, lobster, calico bass, kelp bass, sheephead, senoritas, Blacksmith and various other species. We had a huge sheephead swimming with us for awhile. His comical looks made us laugh. he disapeared for a minute, and Josh looked behind him, there was Mr. Sheephead with mouth open, and teeth showing, trying to sneek up on him and take a nip! When Josh looked at him, he just had a look as if to say "oops you caught me" and he swam away. All in all, we had a great time. It started to sprinkle as we went in for our last dive, but it was good weather the rest of the day. This is what going, checking the conditions, and deciding to dive or not, is all about. Thanks Catalina for another great memory!

Not the best pictures, but, here are a couple shots.

Comments: Saw no fish, no marine life no nothing. Just cement, and oh... two water torpedo rubber toys and a rubber octopus. With the conditions not being favorable to ocean diving I am taking a dry suit course. So last night I did my pool dive in my rented dry suit. Hmmm, I can see the attraction in diving dry. I got out of the pool, dried my face and hands and I was ready to put on my clothes. No shivering, no sopping wet body. Just me doing a dance as I raced to get the dry suit off before it became a wet suit. Hmmm. if I ever do buy a dry suit, it would have to have plumbing. But I am sure that diving in Washington next month I will appreciate diving dry. Now if I can only figure out a way to get $2,000 past the wife. Any ideas?

"Honey, I'm buying a wetsuit." :D

Hi Melvin,

Glad to hear that you're considering the dry side. Drysuits are of limited use for beach diving but rock for multi-dive days on the boats. The plumbing thing is no big deal and is pretty reliable. Contact me off list if you need more info.

Have fun and congrats Melvin. BTW, thanks all for the frequent dive reports gang. I live for reading these SoCal reports as my Wife and I are still considering a move to LA. We are planning another week long trip in the summer, maybe...
