Hi All,

I'm seriously considering a trip to the Caymen Islands on the week of July 4th, however was the Islands badly affected from last years hurricanes?

What was your experiences there?

Did you dive Stingray City?

What is a nice hotel to stay at?

What Dive Operator did you use and were you happy with them?

Thanks to all in advance.

We were in GC two weeks ago and while the island is still beat up (homes under repair, vegetation damaged), the reef is fine, hotels and restaurants are getting back up and running and I strongly encourage you to go. We didn't dive Stingray City since this was our 10th trip to GC and while its something everyone should do at least once, its not necessarily something that I feel compelled to do over and over. We dove with Divetech and I strongly recommend them. We love the Cobalt Coast, which is on the North Side which is where the best GC diving is, in my opinion. Some friends stayed at the Westin on Seven Mile Beach and it looks like a very nice hotel as well, albeit much different than Cobalt Coast.

My full report on our trip to GC is here: http://scubaboard.com/t85373-.html

I myself recommend the Sunset House....we were there last yr. and I know that they are now open, it's a great place with good service. all the shore diving you want and it's right by downtown.

Hey Sham ba la,
Here's a link on what's open or opening on the island after the hurricane.

"Ivan" decided to cause some havoc on land but our dive sites are still as beautiful as ever. And the island is starting to get back to normal. Many accommodations, most stores, most restaurants and, most importantly, DIVE OPERATIONS are open now. July will be a great time to come down. Casey
