Seven of us dove the Savannah river this morning in two groups. We dove the N. Augusta (Riverview Park) boat landing. This dive begins and ends at the boat ramp. This part of the river was originally in the fall line of the river. With the advent of the lock and dam below downtown Augusta, a 12 mile "pool" was created. The area for this dive was probably rapids in the past but now has depths of up to 19' or so. The bottom is sheets of rock and boulders. On the edges are large tree limbs and trees in the water. We enjoyed a 110 minute dive today with max depth of 19' and temps around 69-70, and 8-10' vis (less than last weekend). Turtles, carp, bass, shellcrackers, and small channel cats (I counted 25 in the cracks and ledges). What a nice day.
