I dived last year with Scuba Marin (also known as Paradive). It's a good choice if you don't like big boats with lots of divers. They use longtail boats only. Great staff.

I took my first breaths underwater on kho phi phi in dec 2000, although it was crowded the diving was great, sea snakes, lep sharks amongst other things. i dived with viking divers and had noproblems at all. Enjoy ! :jester:

Koh Phi Phi is not the paradise it used to be anymore.

Underwater it is still OK, but they are seriously talking about closing the island for a couple of years in order to get rid of all the rubbish.

Long tails are OK for short trips, I really don't see how some diving centres use them to transport divers and dive gear, let alone diving out of one.

I was happy sleeping on the coast (Ao Nang, Krabi region) and going out every morning with a nice, comfortable boat.

I'll be heading that way in May, 4-18, should you be interested just drop me a line!

I agree with Chiara, Phi Phi isnt the place it used to be, too commercialised and too much junk. Was there more than two years ago and enjoyed it tremendously. Returned there this march and found it disappointing. The place I used to stay, the owner was so nice the first time i was there, but i guess the money got to him as well. Prices are rising steadily in phi phi, but its still great for diving still.
Instead I would suggest heading over to Tonsai or Railay which is near by , near the Krabi and Ao Nang area. Heard Koh Lanta is an excellent spot and Similan islands is still one of the best areas to dive.
My two cents worth on phi phi.

I stayed 1 month at Viking Divers and highly recommend them. Their equipment is top notch and the dive masters were the coolest of the island. Moreover, it is not a factory-like diving shop. Ask for Nigel or Mici and have fun.

i would have to agree with the general feeling on phiphi. too many divers and too much rubbish. having said that, its probably the best diving in that area unless you can shell out some xtra dosh to head to the Similian Islands, Burma Banks etc. there are 2 other dive sites south of phi phi, urrrmmmm dont quite remember their names, but they are 2 pinnacles rising from 70 meters or somethin like that, but i have heard good things about it - great vis and whale sharks.
malaysia has great diving too, but indo takes the cake. head for a little island off the northern tip of sumatra, called pulau weh. it is worth the effort.
