Hold your hand so the light shines where you want it. I keep my light on my left and use the right (my dominant hand) for inflation, scooters, accessing pockets, etc.

I use a OxyCheq light sock for my cable light and I love it. Goodman handles transfer an incredible amount of chill to your hand and fingers in nearly freezing water, but the light sock has no metal to suck up the cold and transfer it to my hand. I also find I can do a very great deal with my hand w/o needing to remove the light because the sock holds it firmly and well out of the way of my palm & fingers.
