A big thank you to everyone who participated. I think everyone had fun and hopefully learned something educational about the reef from the talk about lion fish to learning a new skill of catching lion fish or for those who had done it in the past a opportunity to continue to become a better lion fish hunter. This was the first time that I had used a ELF. At first I was sceptical but it seemed to effective and the divers using them seemed to have little difficulty in using them. So I think they worked well.

Why was this the tool being used. One because this is the tool that the Marine Park Purchased so that they can provide the tools necessary for divers to participate in these types of events here in Cozumel (that we hope to have more often). It meets the requirments that the marine park has asked divers to meet when hunting lion fish. Other tools can and were used but they needed to meet certain requirments to prevent the least amount of possibilities of damage to the reef.

The idea to try and prevent hitting the reef with the spear is a big part. It is useless to catch lion fish if the damage that we cause is greater then the good of getting rid of a small portion of lion fish in this great big ocean.

I hope that we will see more divers come next year. IMG_0171.jpg

I have to agree that this event has a success in every way! We hope more folks will participate next year, everyone who we took out had a blast and commented on how exhilirating it was!! One couple who only did the first 2 days, was trying to change their flight to go the 3rd day!! Here are some pictures of the Scuba Du Lionfish Safari participants:
