Hi Sapphire,

As mentioned a couple of posts ago, I got the Bihn Monolith #2 hard case for my heavy, large Toshiba 5200 series. I'll be using it in my LL Bean backpack. The Bean (which is the largest of the available "urban" type bags--as opposed to mountain gear--) is an amazing backpack: it has three separate compartments, one easily large enough to accomodate my big, stuffed regulator bag, the center one fits the large Bihn #2 and the front one is beautifully divided up into any number of flaps, zipper compartments, pen holders, phone holders, etc, etc. Then there are two more, relatively thin zippered compartments on the front.

The backpack is extremely tough (I use it every day for work) Cordura with compression straps and a waist strap. When Dive traveling, I stuff it with the reg bag, computer, computer power supply, battery charger + power supply, loads of batteries, flashlight, book, files, magazines, power bars, water bottles, and a light change of clothes, plus any number of googaws. It's fat when full, but I've never been asked to check it on even the tiniest puddle jumpers.

Just another option to add to your considerations, though I don't know if the current model LL Bean looks exactly like mine (they seem to change almost every year).

Good luck!

i just stumbled across this website a few days ago www.shoptargus.com and bought a CN600 laptop backpack, which is awesome. it's all soft and padded inside which is well good cos i'm well clumsy.

I’ve used a Timbuk2 messenger bag (with laptop sleeve) to carry my Powerbook G4 for the past three years—it has carried my Powerbook on every dive trip in all kinds of weather/condition. It is very waterproof and quite light (IMHO easier and more comfortable to carry than Pelican-type hard case or backpack).

I use one of the swiss gear bags from best buy. i really like it. back pocket specifically for laptop, and an mp3/ipod pocket. plus plenty of room for all odds and ends i need on the plane. also when fully packed it still fits perfectly in overheads.

Since this original post is only a few years old, I'll add my 2 cents for anybody looking for something similar now.I'm suprised nobody mentioned the Akona backback/shoulder bag.

I use this bag to do my boat diving, but it could be used to carry a laptop +.
The outside compartment measure 12" x 15" and fits a laptop very nicely.
The main compartment is very roomy and will fit many items.
It has a very comfortable padded sling style strap, or two padded backback shoulder straps that tuck away into a zipped compartment when not being used. Great general use gear- computer bag in my opinion.
