Hey Floyd, I can vouch for what Baja Dive says. We just completed our third day of diving with Baja Dive, and they were just what you are looking for, and more...non-rushed diving in great conditions...compared to Vancouver! :)

The air temp this week was in the 70s to 80s, the water temp is about 70F. I dove in a 5 mm wet suit with a 6 mm vest / 4 mm hood and was very comfortable. The beginning of the week it was the normal cold wind from the north, which picked up as the day went on. We did 2 dives, but three would have been easy and Baja Dive would be happy to comply. Today the wind shifted, it was from the south and much warmer, air temps in the high 80s. Warmer between dives, but the chop got so bad that the port closed around noon...no boats allowed out. We were able to complete our dives without incident.

At this time of year, you will dive outside the harbor at Cabo San Lucas, to Land's End, and not the Cabo Pulmo or Gordo's. You'll get used to the constant sound of props and motors as the diving walls are next to the boat channel. But there is plenty of sea life to see.

Baja Dive owner and Dee and divemaster Carlos took very good care of us, and showed us some incredible sights, including the Sand Falls at Agenado Rock, a fun drift dive off the wall at Land's End, and a bunch of eels, lobsters, Hawkfish, King Angelfish, etc. As someone else noted, the fish here are much less camera-shy that at other locations. Baja Dive doesn't have the fanciest boat here (back roll entry), but it's plenty big to handle the waves and it's roomier than most dive boats. What they lack in size they make up for in personal attention. You will not be rushed.

Have fun.

I decided to try Cabo later towards September when it is warmer etc , thanks for all the info , at least now I have an understanding of the area .

I see the positive review of Baja Dive, and they seem to be active Forum participants. Any other reviews out there? The advertised Cabo dive shop names are Manta and Nautilus. I will be doing my (referral) certification down there, and, hopefully a few additional trips, in the company of a non-diver, so I will be wanting to do 1/2 days. Since it's new, and I'm not as young as I used to be, I will be wanting to "take it easy". Thank you for helping me out with your experience and information!

I dove with Sunshine Dive and Charter last July. Great operation. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable crew. While diving the Cabo Marine Park our group size never exceeded 6. Their office is in the Marina under the Wyndham Hotel.

Thanks much for taking the time to give your recommendation. I'm signed up with them for the (referral) certification dives and a couple more. I also notice that they are PADI "five star" and I came across other good words about them on the web. So, I'm feeling as confident as I can as a "rookie". Thanks much. Do you want an update in two weeks when I get back?

Are you kidding me? I love updates and trip reports! Have a wonderful time. I look forward to hearing your update.

Sunshine Dive and Charter is listed in PADI's Consumer Alerts page as no longer being a PADI dive center. Never belive what a web page says go to PADI and check what shops are still in PADI Click the link to see what action PADI has taken agenst Sunshine http://www.padi.com/scuba/about-padi/quality-management/consumer-alerts/special-advisories/

I have been diving with a few of the shops in Cabo, and decided to take my DM at Nautilus Dive Tech. They are very attentive to detail, have a training pool at their shop, and very accommodating regarding scheduling. They are not located around the marina, but it is only a 5 minute walkaway - and well worth it. They are particularly interested in training at any level, but will also take care of any interest you have in diving.

Hey Steven, Just wondering how you trip to Cabo went.
Thanks cant wait til we go.

Cabo San Lucas is the city right on the tip. Jose Del Cabo is along the coast. Cabo San Lucas is a real city not just a resort so it is a bit grittier. It is also where most of the restaurants, bars and nightlife are. Most of the nicer resorts are outside of the city.

There are several dive shops there. I dove with MANTA and had a pleasant experience. Most of the dives were at the marine preserve on the point, just a short boat ride out of the harbor. I dove in November. Can't speak for conditions the rest of the year, but I was able to wear a shorty wetsuit and be comfortable. Visibility wasn't great while I was there but there was a decent amount of life: big schools of fish, sea lions.

MANTA also offerred trips to Gordo Banks, Cabo Pulmo, and La Paz.

I highly recommend the day trip to La Paz to snorkel with whale sharks and suba dive with the sea lions.
