Malaria pills? What do you all do?

I have been in the Bay Islands for several years and never used anti-malarial medication. On Utila the doctor tells me there have been only a handful of cases in the time he has been here, all probably contracted on the mainland. Roatan I believe does have more than here but Roatan people can comment on that.

If you are concerned you should visit someone who can prescribe the correct medication for this area. Different strains are resistant to different drugs and what works well in one place in the world can be less effective in other places.
 
Well; I've had Malaria-courtesy of Vietnam-temp @ 105 and emergency medevac.

I took anti malarial meds daily. It did not work. I had falciparum malaria.

End result was a two week in country vacation @ the Navy Med Center in DaNang.

Thanks for this helpful info, I am sure many will benefit from 40 year old info relating to a different country with different strains and no mention of drugs used and handled by the government
