I think, River Rat, we might start getting scuba porn spam... maybe not all bad after all... :D

That flash stuff is just a waste of time. I've got high speed internet and it's SLOWWWWWW. Imagine on dialup? The first rule in marketing stuff on the web is you gotta get to the point right away. Less is more. After 60 seconds a user will move on. I couldn't take it after 2 seconds.

Good point RR. Mares missed the boat on the products AND the advertising...

Ciao, guys.
Yes you finally have seen the Limited Edition gear. The fins is really the new Avanti Quattro. It is an incredible fin. The performance of the fins are incredibile and it is better of the Avanti Quattro the most sold fin in the world. The matal plate in the fin make the fin unique. Have you seen any other fin in the market with a metal peace inside that improve performance ? The reg is unique as well it is the smallest metal regulator in the market, the performance are incredibible and also you can personalize it ? Have you ever had a reg that you can personalize like this one ? This is unique as well. About the Morphos, I admit is not the unique but the Air Trim is unique and I believe it should be more diffuse. It is pneumatic system and it is by far more tecnical than the rest. However, guys I believe these product is unique, it is not just a number, they are only 2000 pieces sold in the world and we will not produce this product in the same way anymore.....
I think you have been a little harsh on it. It is a marketing campaign but there are also 3 unique pieces that you will never ever find in the world in the future and you can personalize it and none is offering the same opportunity.
Talk to you soon.

Stefano: Just so you know for the future, according to www.dictionary.com:

Revolutionary = Marked by or resulting in radical change
Cosmetic = Decorative rather than functional; Lacking depth or significance; superficial

Let me brief you in on another definition you may find useful:
Overhype = To promote or publicize to excess

Sure am glad I didn't 'wait breathlessly' for this one. I wonder how the local Mares shops are going to explain this one to the customers they 'overhyped' this stuff to?

I've watched this thread since it's inception. I held off, thinking "you know, they really might have something new here". A lot of naysayers have been wrong about new items in the past. I was sorely mistaken.

With all due respect:

1. Personalization is bull*****. Why would I pay extra for it? Do people really get their regs mixed up that often that they have to put their names on it? I put my daughter's name on her clothes when she went to camp- but she was 6 years old at the time.....
This isn't like Calvin Klein that you slap on your butt so everyone can see you've got their brand. Your name is emlazoned on the front of every reg anyway, so what problem does this solve?

2. The reg is smaller, which is nice, but it isn't "revolutionary".

3. $250.00 for a set of fins? I don't care it you've got it loaded with titanium and kevlar, it ain't worth $250.00. I liked my Quattros, but they were close to $100.00.

4. The Limited Edition part of this is pure marketing hype. 2000 sets? I'll tell you what-make 50 sets out of gold and sell them for $750.00, then you'd have Limited Edition. I might even buy one!

5. I won't even dignify a comment on the HUB clone.

After all the bashing, we have to admit that it takes some courage for Stephano to post in this board, without cynicism. Stephano, thanks for the small letter in the LE package, it would have been a nice touch if you actually handwrote it and signed it (wow, big manager spending all that time writing thank you letters! think about it for your next Platinum Limited Edition).

As it seems that I am the only one posting here who has actually purchased a LE item (I called my shop and they confirmed that they haven't sold any since then), I'd like to share some more thoughts, now that the whole mystique is gone, the hype dissipated.

The first stage of the reg is really amazingly small. Since someone asked if I tried breathing in it at depth, the answer is no. I'll try it on my next trip and share my impressions + comparison with my SPro MK25/650X. Not too worried about the reg's performance, I'll trust Mares technology.

By the way, making it unique, personalizing it by putting your name has absolutely no value to me. The website naming simulation clearly shows that it will just make the reg ugly. I will not pay the extra 15 Euros to do it ($700 not enough, you gotta pay the extra bucks to get your name printed!). I've heard rumors that Lexus will be selling limited edition personalized cars with a 30% higher price: you can choose a bumper sticker for 15 euros + tax.

The BC is not a Hub. Reg's not integrated in it. It's really a Morphos Pro. As Stephano stated, the Airtrim is a big technological advance, if not revolutionary. But it's been out there for what, 4 years? But again, nice touch on the 4 shoulder D-rings. Useful for helicopter rescuing.

For the fins, a rationale consumer would wait for some lab/field tests. Can't tell from just checking the stiffness of the blade. Until proven otherwise, they're just super expensive, super ugly fins with a numbered sticker on them.

Anyway, what revolution did we expect? The only type of gear for which there's a lot of room for improvement is tanks. They haven't evolved for the past decades, they're still very bulky and heavy. Strong, light and temperature change tolerant materials such as composites could hold higer pressure in a smaller volume. The key would be to get the pressure down from, say 500 bars, to the usual 200 bars before reaching the first stage, so that we won't have to buy new regs. But then, why would a manufacturer do that?

The funny thing about tanks is that you need that weight from somewhere. The lighter the tank, the more weight you need on your belt (or whereever). In fact, I would argue that a lighter tank poses it's own problems in terms of trim for those of us that care, but that's another thread.....

The 4 shoulder D-rings comment? just a smart *** sarcasm:
LE BC = Morphos Pro - 1 useful D-ring + 4 useless shoulder D-rings + $250 that went into poor marketing. Ohh, and I almost forgot the best part: the numbered metal tag.

But what if you have a tank the size of a 1-liter bottle that holds 200 cf? Would only need to weigh a couple of pounds empty
