Mark Powell, the author of the book "Deco for Divers" gave an humorous presentation "Solo Diving - Coming Out of the Closet" at the London International Dive Show in April 2012. In the 48 minute presentation he ponders about how common solo diving is, its relative safety and its insurance aspects. You can view the video in full screen, if you first right-cllick on the video and select "Watch on Vimeo".

Thanks r4e, link worked :)

great vid and I agree every instabuddy I have had has been crap so I started diving with a pony at dive num 10 and it now goes on every dive only one I count on is me

May have to watch this after I finish diving this weekend... solo. Have dived solo since my very first time on SCUBA in 1961-62. Incident rate with pick-up buddies 17X that of when I'm diving solo. Of course I dive with redundancy and don't advocate that others dive solo since the most important factor IMHO is knowing how one responds to an emergency.
