Just got back from Maui and the water and visibility is insane. Loved every dive and made me realize how much the water means to us. Just wanted to say thank you to the locals that I was diving with.

We dive Maui every year and choose Ed Robinson's for boat diving. They're geared toward the more advanced diver, and even have advanced charters if you want. The most recommended shops around here for boat diving are Ed Robinson's, B&B, and Mike Severns. The most recommended for shore diving are Maui Dreams and Shaka Doug. All of these operators are out of Kihei, and IMO won't go wrong booking with any (or all) of them. :)

For charters to Lanai, it's a dead heat between Lahaina Divers and Extended Horizons....there are big differences between them, so it's a matter of personal preference. Both of these operators work out of Lahaina.

Personally, I think even if you're staying in the Kaanapali or Lahaina area its worth the drive to Kihei early in the morning to meet a charter to S. Maui and Molokini dive sites. We usually go to Maui for 2 weeks, staying in Kaanapali the first week and Kihei the second, and we happily do the drive every morning.

Keep in mind that Maui charters leave EARLY in the morning so you get your dives done before the trade winds pick up around noon. Prepare to get up early and be done diving by about noon.

The best was Molokini Crater.......at least for us.....

We used Scuba Shack.....

It was awesome......M

Loved Maui diving!! Did 9 dives split up between Ed Robinson's and Extended Horizons and had a great time with both companies. Best of all we ended up doing Molokini's back wall with Ed Robinson's and it was an amazing dive... The must do if you go to Maui!

Just got back from Maui Sept 7-14th. We did 16 dives over the 6 days we had to dive. If you have never done it definately book a boat charter to do Molokini. We did a 2 tank with Mike Severns both dives at the crater. Great viz decent dives plus a 3 tank adventure charter with Ed Robinsons. 1 ridge dive at the crater then the backwall plus the 3rd at the tank and landing craft. Dives were also good. The other 11 dives we did were shore dives. 5 graves(3), Wailea point(2), Haloa point, Mala warf, Honolua bay(2), red hill, and ulua beach. We actually found a lot more stuff on our shore dives as we go very, very slow. Lots of variety of Eels, frogfish, octopus, nudibranchs, whitetips, turtles, eagle rays, plus 1 manta ray. etc.etc. Average dive time on the shore dives was 90 min. You might want to have a guide or if you are good at critter finding just go out yourself.

We are headed that way in couple of months. Do you have any don't miss sites or a shop rec?
For shore diving Maui dreams in Kehei we have found to have great prices on rental tanks and weights if you are in that part of Maui. $40 for a 10 tank rental, I think about $3/day for weights and $4-5/day for a dive flag (required in Maui for shore diving) As others have mentioned Ed Robinsons, Mike Severns do a great job in South Maui for boat diving. Pro diver is also very good and I've heard good things about B&B but never been out with them. Also haven't been with any of the operators out of West Maui so can't comment on that. Have a great time and safe diving. 5 graves is a great shore dive along with Mala warf. Saw white tips at both sites and a ton of other life.
